Wob requests can no longer be submitted electronically

A request for information based on the Dutch Government Information (Public Access) Act [Wet openbaarheid van bestuur, Wob] can still be submitted in writing to BsGW by post or by handing in a letter at the reception desk at Maria Theresialaan 99 in Roermond. In this way, BsGW is discontinuing the option of submitting requests electronically (e.g. by e-mail, fax, SMS, electronic form or social media). This decision was taken by the Board of Management of BsGW on 20 November 2014. The measure enters into force on 1 December 2014.

Why has the Board of Management decided to discontinue the electronic option?
The reason why Wob (public information) requests submitted electronically are no longer being accepted is that an increasing number of requests are being received in which the submitters are not concerned about the requested information but about receiving a possible penalty and a payment towards legal costs incurred. The number of these “improper Wob requests” is increasing at an alarming rate. This takes up so much official time that it is no longer reasonable to process requests submitted electronically. By discontinuing the electronic option, the Board of Management hopes to prevent these improper requests to the maximum possible extent.
This decision does not affect the public nature of the information requested. A request submitted in writing by post or handed in at reception will be processed in the normal way. Information that is public is public to everyone, no matter who submits the request.
